Vaccinations
Description:

Rabies vaccination and timing per EU rules referenced by Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture for entry of dogs, cats, and ferrets.

  • Pet must be vaccinated against rabies after microchip implantation.
  • A minimum of 21 days must pass after a primary rabies vaccination before entry.
  • If boosters are given within the vaccine’s validity period, no new 21‑day wait is required.
  • Entry of animals under 15 weeks (too young to complete primary rabies vaccination + 21‑day wait) is not allowed.
Certifications
Description:

Movements from EU Member States or covered territories require an EU Pet Passport issued by an authorized veterinarian, showing the pet’s identification and rabies vaccination.

  • EU Pet Passport must include microchip/tattoo identification and valid rabies vaccination details.
Microchip

Pet must be identified with a microchip compliant with ISO 11784/11785, implanted before rabies vaccination. A clearly legible tattoo applied before 3 July 2011 is accepted.

Pets entering Spain from third countries must arrive via authorized Travellers’ Points of Entry (Puntos de Entrada de Viajeros) where documentation and identity checks may be performed.

  • Use an authorized Travellers’ Point of Entry as listed by MAPA.
  • Present the pet and documentation upon arrival if requested.
