Serbia
Dogs, Cats, and Ferrets Regulations
Vaccinations
Rabies vaccination is required per Serbia’s official veterinary health certificate for dogs, cats, and ferrets. Primary vaccination must be administered at least 21 days before travel. Record vaccine details on the certificate.
- A current rabies vaccination must be documented on the official health certificate.
- Primary rabies vaccination must be at least 21 days before the date of travel.
- Booster vaccinations must be within the manufacturer’s validity period on the date of travel.
- Rabies vaccination must be administered after implantation of the microchip/tattoo identification; if vaccination was given before identification, revaccinate after microchipping and observe the 21-day wait.
Certifications
Use the official Serbia veterinary health certificate for up to five pet dogs, cats, and ferrets. After completion by a USDA-accredited veterinarian, APHIS endorsement is required.
- Certificate must be issued by a USDA-accredited veterinarian and then endorsed by APHIS.
- Certificate issuance and APHIS endorsement must occur within 10 days before the pet’s travel.
- Movement of ≤5 pets must be non-commercial (not for sale or transfer of ownership) and the pets must accompany the owner or a person authorized in writing by the owner.
Microchip
Dogs, cats, and ferrets must be identified by a microchip compliant with ISO 11784/11785 (HDX or FDX-B). If the microchip is not ISO-compatible, the owner must supply a compatible reader. A clearly legible tattoo applied before 3 July 2011 is acceptable. Identification (microchip/tattoo) must be applied before the rabies vaccination; the chip/tattoo number and date of implantation must be recorded on the certificate.

- APHIS endorses the certificate; the endorsed original accompanies the animal.
- Electronic veterinarian signatures are accepted; APHIS endorsement requires original ink/embossed signature per APHIS guidance.
Temporary disease-control measures
Serbia may implement temporary animal-health measures (e.g., FMD-related). Check Serbia’s Veterinary Directorate orders (Naredbe) and APHIS Serbia page for current restrictions and any routing/transit conditions before travel.
Owner/authorized person and declaration
Pets must accompany the owner or a person authorized in writing by the owner. Movements must be non-commercial (not for sale or transfer of ownership). Be prepared to present the authorization and declare the pet to border/customs and the border veterinary inspector at an approved crossing.
- Carry a written authorization if the owner is not traveling with the pet.
- Declare the pet and present documents for veterinary control at an appropriate border crossing; fees may apply.
