Dog & Cat & Ferret Regulations
Vaccinations
Rabies vaccination requirements for entry to the European Union (EU) as applied by Romania, per USDA APHIS guidance implementing EU Regulation (EU) No 576/2013.
- Pet must be identified with a microchip before receiving the rabies vaccination for travel.
- Primary rabies vaccination must be administered by a licensed/authorized veterinarian; the pet may enter the EU no sooner than 21 days after that primary vaccination.
- Booster doses given before the previous vaccination expires maintain continuity; if the booster is valid at the time of travel, no additional 21‑day wait is required.
Certifications
For movements of up to 5 pets traveling with (or within 5 days of) the owner/authorized person. The certificate must be completed by a USDA Accredited Veterinarian and then endorsed by USDA APHIS.
- USDA Accredited Veterinarian must complete the EU non-commercial health certificate.
- USDA APHIS must endorse the certificate prior to departure.
- The pet must arrive in the EU within 10 days of the certificate being issued.
Microchip
Pet must have an ISO-compliant microchip (ISO 11784/11785) implanted before the rabies vaccination used for travel. If the microchip is not ISO-compatible, the traveler should bring an appropriate microchip reader.
Origin Requirements
No origin-specific requirements for this pet.
