Vaccinations
Description:

Dogs and cats entering Paraguay must meet rabies vaccination requirements per SENACSA guidance aligned with the MERCOSUR baseline.

  • The animal must be currently vaccinated against rabies.
  • The animal must be at least 90 days old at the time of its primary rabies vaccination.
  • Wait at least 21 days after the primary rabies vaccination before entry.
  • Rabies vaccination details must be documented on the health certificate or vaccination record accompanying the animal.
Certifications
Description:

An official International Veterinary Certificate (CVI) following the MERCOSUR pet model is required.

  • Issued by the competent veterinary authority of the exporting country in accordance with SENACSA requirements.
  • For animals exported from the United States, the certificate must be endorsed by USDA APHIS.
  • The original CVI must accompany the animal and be presented to SENACSA at an authorized point of entry upon arrival.
Microchip

ISO 11784/11785-compliant microchip identification is required.

Parasite treatment

Preventive treatments are required per SENACSA/MERCOSUR baseline.

  • Administer internal and external antiparasitic treatments within 15 days prior to entry and record them on the certificate.
Entry control

All pets and documents are subject to SENACSA inspection at arrival.

  • Present the pet and original documents to SENACSA officials at an authorized entry/exit post.
Quantity and commercial status

Non-commercial entry is limited; larger numbers are treated as commercial consignments.

  • Up to five (5) dogs and/or cats may enter as non-commercial pets.
  • Six (6) or more animals are considered a commercial consignment and must follow live-animal import procedures, including prior authorization with SENACSA via the VUI platform.
Health conditions

Entry may be refused for certain diseases.

  • SENACSA may deny entry to animals with leishmaniasis or under predominant suspicion of the disease.
