Vaccinations
Description:

Rabies vaccination is required for dogs, cats, and ferrets entering North Macedonia under the national Rulebook on non-commercial movements of pet animals. Pets arriving from countries that are not listed in the applicable annex of the Rulebook generally require a rabies antibody titration test (per the FVA materials; consult FVA for current listed/unlisted country status).

Per USDA APHIS guidance, pets traveling directly from the United States or only via Annex II–listed countries may not need a rabies titer; verify this with the Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) before travel.

  • Pet must be currently vaccinated against rabies.
  • If arriving from a country not listed in the relevant annex, a rabies antibody titration test is required (confirm timing and laboratory requirements with FVA).
  • Carry supporting vaccination documentation with identification details matching the pet’s ID.
Certifications
Description:

A veterinary health certificate for non-commercial movement is required under North Macedonia’s Rulebook (as summarized by the FVA). Present documents to border veterinary control upon entry or transit.

  • Obtain an official veterinary health certificate for non-commercial movement as required by FVA.
  • Accompany the pet(s) during travel and present documents for inspection at the border.
Microchip

Electronic identification (transponder/microchip) is expected. The FVA Pets page mentions tattoo/permanent ID or electronic identification, while the 2015 FVA poster emphasizes a transponder (microchip); travelers should assume a microchip is required and ensure the ID matches the documents.

Origin Requirements

No origin-specific requirements for this pet.

More Info
Non-commercial movement limit

Up to five pet animals per traveler are allowed for non-commercial movement under the FVA Rulebook (exceptions may apply for participation in shows/competitions with supporting proof).

  • No more than five pet animals per person for non-commercial entry/transit.
  • Carry documentation if traveling for a competition/exhibition and confirm any exception with FVA in advance.
Entry and border control

Pets are subject to inspection at entry. Declare animals to Customs and present documents to the veterinary authority at the border crossing.

  • Declare the animal(s) at Customs on arrival.
  • Present veterinary documents for border inspection.
Annex country status

The FVA references annexes to the 2015 Rulebook (e.g., lists of countries) without publishing them on the summary page. Confirm the current listed/unlisted country status with the FVA to determine whether a rabies titer is required.
