Vaccinations
Rabies Vaccine Requirements per EU 576/2013 Annex III
- Rabies vaccines must be administered by an authorized veterinarian.
- All pets must wait at least 21 days, or the time designated by the rabies vaccine manufacturer prior to traveling to the port of entry.
- Primary vaccination given at minimum 12 weeks of age
Certifications
The EU has two versions of the pet health certificate: the "non-commercial" and the "commercial." Both health certificate versions require an Accredited Veterinarian to issue the health certificate and then USDA to endorse the health certificate before your pet's travel.
- The endorsement must happen within 10 days of your pet's arrival in the EU for non-commercial health certificates.
- The endorsement can happen any time within 48 hours after the Accredited Veterinarian issues the commercial health certificate.
Microchip
Your pet must have a working microchip (also called a “transponder”) before getting its rabies vaccination for travel to the EU.

Rabies high RIsk countries
Rabies antibody titration test required Blood sample taken minimum 30 days after primary rabies vaccination If dog already vaccinated several times and last vaccination still valid, blood sample can be drawn immediately Test result must be 0.5 IU/ml or higher Test must be performed at EU-approved laboratory 3-month waiting period between blood collection and travel to Netherlands Test does not need to be renewed if dog revaccinated before expiry date of previous vaccination If dog was vaccinated, blood tested and given EU pet passport in EU before traveling to unlisted country, 3-month waiting period not required on return Rabies vaccination must still be valid when returning to Netherlands If vaccination given in non-EU country, must be registered on separate EU health certificate Dogs must travel with owner or within 5 days before or after owner travel Dogs not intended for sale or transfer of ownership Dogs must enter via designated entry points Dogs must be registered within 2 weeks of arrival in Netherlands (microchip and registration required by law) All commercial transports must be preregistered in TRACES database
