Vaccinations
Rabies vaccination conditions are not published online. Any rabies vaccination and timing requirements are specified on the Veterinary Import Permit issued by the Directorate of Veterinary Services (MAWLR).
Operator note: Rabies timing for non-SADC routes (e.g., EU/USA) is not specified online; follow the conditions stated on the issued permit.
- Comply with the vaccination instructions listed on your Namibian Veterinary Import Permit.
- Carry any vaccination certificates that your permit requires (e.g., rabies), for presentation at the point of entry.
Certifications
An import permit issued by Namibia’s Directorate of Veterinary Services (MAWLR) is required for the importation of live animals under the Animal Health Act. The permit will state the specific conditions for entry (e.g., vaccinations, tests, quarantine, and the approved point of entry).
- Apply to the Directorate of Veterinary Services (MAWLR) and obtain the Veterinary Import Permit before travel.
- Ensure the permit lists the species, quantity, country of origin, and intended port/date of entry as required by DVS.
- Carry the original permit and present it to the State Veterinary Official at the Namibian point of entry.
- Operator note: Fees reported by DVS have varied (e.g., N$150 in Namibia or €50 when applying from abroad). Confirm the current fee with DVS at the time of application.
Microchip
Not specified.
Operator note: A standalone Namibia microchip rule is not published online. However, some transit countries and airlines require microchipping; check transit/airline requirements.
Origin Requirements
No origin-specific requirements for this pet.
More Info
Entry inspection and clearance
At the Namibian point of entry, the animal(s) and all documents (import permit, health certificate, and any vaccination records required by the permit) must be presented to the State Veterinary Official for inspection and authorization before you may leave the entry point.
- Enter through a point where State Veterinary Services are available.
- Present the animal(s) and all original documents to the State Veterinary Official and follow their instructions before leaving the port of entry.
Quarantine (if required by permit)
Any quarantine requirement will be stated on the Veterinary Import Permit. For some origins, quarantine may be required.
Operator note: A 30-day quarantine is indicated for pets from certain origins not otherwise listed; location/cost/booking details are not published—confirm with DVS Import/Export Control.
- Review your permit for quarantine instructions and comply with the specified duration and facility, if required.
- If quarantine is required, arrange any bookings as directed by DVS and carry proof of arrangements.
Transit and airline requirements
Transit countries and airlines may impose additional requirements (e.g., microchip, carrier specifications, seasonal embargoes). Ensure compliance for all segments of travel.
Operator note: Microchip is referenced primarily for meeting transit-country rules; Namibia does not publish a separate microchip mandate online.
- Confirm and comply with all transit-country and airline rules in addition to Namibian permit conditions.
Wildlife/CITES (non-dog/cat species)
Dogs and cats are not CITES-listed. If traveling with wildlife or other regulated species, obtain the necessary CITES and national wildlife permits from the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT).
- Check whether the species is CITES-listed and obtain required permits from MEFT before travel.
