Vaccinations
Description:

A valid rabies vaccination is required for non-commercial entry of dogs, cats, and domestic ferrets to Montenegro under the national rules for pet movement.

  • Rabies vaccination must be documented in an EU Pet Passport or a veterinary certificate for non-commercial movement.
  • Validity/timing must meet the conditions set by the issuing authority and Montenegro’s rules.

  • From the EU/EEA (or where applicable): travel on an EU Pet Passport.
  • From other countries: a veterinary certificate for non-commercial movement issued/endorsed by the competent authority of the country of origin.

Non-commercial movement limits

Montenegro follows non-commercial movement rules for pet animals.

  • Up to 5 pets may accompany the owner or an authorized person.
  • More than 5 pets permitted only for participation in competitions, exhibitions, or sporting events with proof of registration.
  • All pets in such exceptions must be over 6 months old.
Customs and border controls

Pets are a regulated category at the border. Documentary checks are expected. Protected species may be subject to CITES controls.

  • If any protected species/materials are involved, ensure required permits are in place.
