Description:

A veterinary health certificate is required for pet birds. Mexico accepts APHIS-issued certificates (including digital signature via VEHCS). Certificates must meet format and content rules and include the number of the physical seal applied to the bird’s container.

  • Certificate must be typewritten (no handwritten information or corrections).
  • Include the number of the physical seal applied to the container by the accredited veterinarian prior to departure.
  • Print single-sided; Mexico does not accept double-sided printouts.
  • Avoid abbreviations except as allowed in specified fields (per APHIS guidance).
  • Bird must be individually identified (e.g., numbered leg band) unless too small.

OISA Inspection and Post-Arrival Conditions

SENASICA will conduct a physical inspection and document review at the OISA. Additional measures may be ordered at the authority’s discretion. Certain accompanying materials are not permitted.

  • Present the bird and documentation for inspection at the OISA on arrival.
  • Do not bring food, hay, straw, bedding, feces, or similar materials with the bird.
  • If disease or death occurs after import, notify the competent authority as indicated by SENASICA.
  • Birds may be subject to movement restrictions and/or additional inspections or tests after arrival as directed by authorities.
CITES/Wildlife Authorization (if applicable)

If the species is listed under CITES or Mexican wildlife regulations, obtain the required import authorization from SEMARNAT/DGVS before travel.

  • Check species status and secure any required CITES permits from SEMARNAT/DGVS before entry.
