Vaccinations
Description:

Rabies vaccination is required under EU/French rules for non-commercial entry into Martinique (France). The primary vaccination must be administered after microchip identification and becomes valid 21 days later.

  • Pet must be identified by microchip before rabies vaccination.
  • Primary rabies vaccination: wait at least 21 days after the shot before entry.
  • Booster vaccinations must be kept current according to the manufacturer's schedule; if continuous, no 21‑day wait is required.
  • If arriving from an unlisted third country, a rabies antibody titration test (FAVN) is required at least 30 days after vaccination and at least 3 months before entry (not required for listed countries such as the United States).
  • Young animals: entry is not allowed for dogs, cats, or ferrets that are under 12 weeks old or 12–16 weeks old without a valid rabies vaccination.
Certifications
Description:

Required for entry from non-EU countries. Must be completed by an official veterinarian and endorsed by the competent authority of the country of departure (e.g., USDA APHIS for the United States). The certificate is generally valid for 10 days for entry into the EU/France (including Martinique) and then for up to 4 months for movement within the EU or until the rabies vaccine expires, whichever comes first.

  • Certificate must be issued for non-commercial movement of dogs, cats, or ferrets into the EU/France.
  • Endorsement by the exporting country’s competent authority is required (e.g., USDA APHIS for U.S.-origin pets).
  • The animal must be clinically healthy at the time of certification.
  • Present the original certificate to Customs on arrival.
Microchip

Required. ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15-digit microchip. The pet must be microchipped before rabies vaccination. Non-ISO chips may require the owner to supply a compatible reader. A tattoo applied before 3 July 2011 and clearly legible may be accepted.

Entry and controls

Non-commercial movements (maximum 5 pets, not for sale/transfer of ownership) are presented to Customs at arrival in Martinique (France). Commercial movements or movements of more than 5 pets must enter via an authorized veterinary border control post and are subject to SIVEP controls; contact DAAF/SIVEP for local procedures and entry points.

  • Present pet and documents to Customs at arrival.
  • Maximum 5 pets per traveler for non-commercial entry.
  • Commercial movements or >5 pets require prior arrangements at an authorized veterinary control post (SIVEP/PEA) — contact DAAF/SIVEP.
Age and young animals

France does not allow entry of unvaccinated young animals. Dogs, cats, or ferrets under 12 weeks old, or 12–16 weeks old without a valid rabies vaccination, are not permitted.

Bans/restrictions (breeds and hybrids)

French rules apply. Certain categories of so‑called “dangerous” dogs (Category 1) are prohibited from importation. Restrictions also exist for some hybrids with wild species. Check national guidance and local (Martinique) environmental regulations on invasive and restricted species before travel.
