Vaccinations
Description:

Dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies and meet Korea’s rabies-neutralizing antibody test (RNAT) requirement. Korea recognizes results at or above 0.5 IU/mL from approved laboratories. Some APQA-designated rabies-free regions may be exempt from the RNAT requirement; verify with APQA before travel.

  • Current rabies vaccination prior to entry.
  • Rabies-neutralizing antibody test (RNAT) result of at least 0.5 IU/mL from an approved laboratory.
  • The RNAT must be performed after microchip implantation.
  • The RNAT result is generally valid for up to 24 months before entry.
  • Carry the original RNAT laboratory report during travel.
  • Pets from APQA-designated rabies-free regions may be exempt from the RNAT requirement; confirm with APQA.
Certifications
Description:

A health certificate issued by the government competent authority of the exporting country is required at entry. For travelers from the United States, use the USDA APHIS “Veterinary Health Certificate for Export of Dogs and Cats to Korea,” completed by a USDA-accredited veterinarian and endorsed by USDA.

  • Government-issued health certificate accompanying the pet at arrival.
  • For U.S. origin pets: USDA APHIS Korea dog/cat certificate completed and USDA-endorsed.
  • Microchip number and rabies/RNAT details must appear on the certificate.
Microchip

An ISO 11784/11785-compliant microchip must be implanted before rabies vaccination. The microchip number must appear on all documents (health certificate and RNAT report).

Arrival Quarantine Inspection

All pets are subject to inspection by the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (APQA) at the port of entry. If required vaccination/RNAT documentation is incomplete or noncompliant, pets may be quarantined until requirements are met.

Large Shipments (10 or more dogs/cats)

Importing 10 or more dogs/cats requires prior notification and APQA quarantine facility approval. Coordinate with the relevant APQA regional office well in advance.
