Vaccinations
Description:

Rabies-related requirements apply and are set by Jamaica’s Veterinary Services Division (VSD). Specific vaccination timing and evidence are established in your Veterinary Import Permit conditions.

  • Comply with the rabies-related conditions stated on the Veterinary Import Permit issued by Jamaica’s VSD.
  • Expect to provide proof of rabies vaccination and, where required, a rabies antibody titer test (FAVN) as directed by the VSD.

A valid Veterinary Import Permit issued by Jamaica’s Veterinary Services Division is required before travel and will specify all conditions of entry.

  • Apply via the Government of Jamaica MOATRADE system or as otherwise directed by the VSD.
  • Obtain preliminary approval and ensure the final permit covers the exact travel dates and routing.
  • Carry a copy of the approved permit to present upon arrival.

Eligibility by Country of Origin

Eligibility to import dogs and cats depends on the First Schedule (approved countries) referenced in Jamaica’s guidelines. If your origin is not listed, contact the VSD for guidance.

  • Confirm your exporting country appears in the First Schedule list on the official guideline page or consult the VSD.
Arrival Inspection and Possible Quarantine

All animals are subject to veterinary inspection at the port of entry. Even fully compliant pets may be directed to quarantine at the discretion of the veterinary inspector.

  • Present the animal, permit, and original documents for inspection on arrival.
  • Follow any quarantine or holding instructions issued by the inspector.
Prohibited/Restricted Types

Certain dog breeds are prohibited and hybrids of dogs or cats with other species are not allowed.

  • Do not import prohibited breeds: Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Japanese Tosa, Pit Bull Terrier.
  • Do not import hybrids of dogs or cats with other species.

Entry port and timing must align with permit conditions. Coordinate flight routing and arrival times to ensure on-site veterinary inspection is available.
