Isle of Man (UK)
Salamanders Regulations
Vaccinations
Rabies vaccination is required for entry to Great Britain (which includes the Isle of Man). The pet must be microchipped before vaccination.
- Your pet must be microchipped before receiving the rabies vaccination.
- Wait at least 21 full days after the primary rabies vaccination before entering Great Britain.
- Keep booster vaccinations up to date per the manufacturer’s schedule; a new 21‑day wait is not required if the previous rabies vaccination was still valid when the booster was given.
Certifications
Use a Great Britain pet health certificate (issued by an official veterinarian in the country of departure) or travel on a valid EU pet passport (issued in the EU), as per GOV.UK guidance.
- The GB pet health certificate must be used to enter Great Britain within 10 days of the date it was issued.
- The certificate/passport must show the microchip number and valid rabies vaccination; for dogs, it must also record tapeworm treatment where required.
- For travelers from the United States, the USDA APHIS non‑commercial GB health certificate must be endorsed by APHIS before travel.
Movements that do not meet pet travel rules must follow commercial (“Balai”) import rules.
- Use the commercial model health certificate for dogs, cats and ferrets (GBHC640).
- Pre‑notify the consignment on IPAFFS and enter via a Border Control Post approved for the species.
- Comply with all conditions in the Balai guidance for importing live animals to Great Britain.
Microchip
Dogs, cats and ferrets must be identified with a microchip meeting ISO 11784/11785, implanted before the rabies vaccination.
Origin Requirements
No origin-specific requirements for this pet.
More Info
Tapeworm treatment (dogs only)
Dogs must be treated against Echinococcus multilocularis before entry to Great Britain, with limited route exemptions.
- Treatment must be administered by a veterinarian 24 to 120 hours (1–5 days) before arrival.
- The product must contain praziquantel or an equivalent proven effective against Echinococcus multilocularis.
- Exemptions apply only when travelling directly to Great Britain from Finland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Malta or Norway.
Travel timing and owner
Up to 5 pets may travel non‑commercially and must travel within 5 days of the owner or an authorised person.
- If these conditions are not met, commercial (Balai) rules apply.
Transport to the Isle of Man (sea carriers)
GOV.UK notes that sea carriers on Isle of Man routes are exempt from the Defra carrier‑approval scheme; check with your operator for their requirements.
