Vaccinations
Description:

Rabies vaccination is required for entry to Ireland under EU pet travel rules.

  • Your pet must be microchipped before the rabies vaccination is administered.
  • For a primary rabies vaccination, wait at least 21 days after vaccination before entry. Booster vaccinations must be in-date at the time of travel.
Certifications
Description:

Documentation depends on origin. See DAFM Pet Travel guidance and the Pet Travel Portal for steps specific to your route.

  • From within the EU (or Northern Ireland): travel with a valid EU Pet Passport.
  • From a non‑EU country: travel with an EU Animal Health Certificate completed by an official veterinarian of the country of departure. For pets originating in the United States, USDA APHIS endorsement is required.
Microchip

An ISO‑compliant microchip (transponder) is required and must be implanted before the rabies vaccination. If the chip is not ISO‑compatible, carry a suitable reader.

Origin Requirements
