Vaccinations
Rabies vaccination is required and must be current. The USDA APHIS Dominican Republic dog/cat export health certificate indicates that the first rabies vaccination must be administered in advance of travel, and animals that are too young to be vaccinated may be certified accordingly by the issuing veterinarian.
- A valid rabies vaccination is required.
- If this is the pet’s first rabies vaccination, it must be administered at least 30 days before departure.
- If previously vaccinated, the rabies vaccination must be valid (unexpired) on the date of travel.
- If the animal is too young to be vaccinated against rabies, the veterinarian may certify that fact on the official certificate.
Certifications
An official health certificate for export to the Dominican Republic is required. Per the USDA APHIS Dominican Republic dog/cat certificate, it is valid for 10 days after issuance. The certificate must be completed by a licensed veterinarian (USDA-accredited when exporting from the United States) and endorsed by USDA APHIS. For personal dogs and cats, endorsement by a Dominican consulate is not required.
- Have the certificate completed by a USDA-accredited veterinarian (for exports from the United States).
- Obtain USDA APHIS endorsement of the health certificate before departure.
- Issue the certificate within 10 days prior to arrival; arrival must occur within the 10-day validity window.
- Dominican consulate endorsement is not required for personal dogs and cats.
