Vaccinations
Dogs entering the Czech Republic under non-commercial pet movement rules must meet EU requirements for valid rabies vaccination.
- Rabies vaccination must be valid at the time of entry (primary vaccination and boosters according to the vaccine manufacturer schedule).
- If this is the first rabies vaccination (primary vaccination), travel is permitted only after the required post-vaccination waiting period (commonly 21 days under EU pet movement rules).
- If the animal is entering from a non-listed third country, additional rabies antibody titration requirements may apply (see Origin Requirements and official SVS pages).
Certifications
For travel from EU Member States (and certain aligned countries), dogs typically travel on an EU Pet Passport issued by an authorized veterinarian.
- EU Pet Passport containing identification and rabies vaccination details is used for eligible EU/EEA movements.
Microchip
Dogs must be identified by a microchip or a clearly readable tattoo. If a tattoo was applied before July 3, 2011 and is clearly readable, it may be accepted instead of a microchip. Identification must be applied before rabies vaccination. If a microchip is used, it should be ISO-compatible; if not, the owner may need to provide a compatible reader.
Origin Requirements
-
rabiesAntibodyTiter
Rabies antibody titration (serology) requirements depend on whether the animal is arriving from a listed or non-listed third country. SVS notes a regulatory change affecting animals from Russia and Belarus (removed from the listed group), with additional rabies antibody testing requirements applying from 16 September 2024. Refer to SVS listed vs non-listed third country guidance for current requirements and timing.
-
listedVsNonListedThirdCountry
SVS distinguishes travel rules based on origin category: (1) EU/EEA movements, (2) listed third countries, and (3) non-listed third countries. Non-listed third countries typically require additional rabies serology conditions. Always validate origin category using SVS guidance before issuing documents.
-
entryChecks
SVS indicates that checks at the point of entry may be performed by customs authorities during passenger and luggage inspection. Follow SVS-designated points of entry guidance where applicable.

Non-commercial movement limits
Non-commercial pet movement rules include limits on numbers of animals and conditions for owner travel.
- A non-commercial movement typically allows up to 5 pet animals per person per trip; exceptions may apply for competitions/shows with supporting documentation.
- Non-commercial movement generally requires the animal to accompany the owner or an authorized person (or within the permitted timeframe referenced by EU rules).
Young animals (puppies)
Special rules may apply to young animals depending on origin category.
- Young animals may have special conditions; consult SVS guidance for listed vs non-listed country scenarios and any minimum-age restrictions.
