  • Wait at least 21 days after the primary rabies vaccination before entry into the EU (including Croatia).
  • Rabies vaccination must be administered by a veterinarian and be valid on the date of entry per the manufacturer’s protocol.
Certifications

  • Certificate must be issued by a USDA Accredited Veterinarian.
  • USDA APHIS must endorse the certificate before travel.
  • For non-commercial movements, the endorsed certificate must be used to enter the EU within 10 days of issuance.

Young Pets (Under 16 Weeks)

Croatia does not allow the EU under-16-weeks exception for pets arriving from third countries. Puppies, kittens, and ferrets must meet full rabies vaccination validity (including the 21-day wait) before entry.

Number of Pets and Purpose

Non-commercial movement is limited to five pets. A derogation may apply for pets at least six months old traveling for competitions/shows or sporting events, subject to documentation.

Points of Entry and Checks

Enter the EU via a designated travelers’ point of entry where identity and document checks may occur. Verify routing and any Croatian entry point specifics in advance.

EU Pet Passports

Pets traveling from the United States to the EU use an EU Animal Health Certificate, not an EU Pet Passport. EU Pet Passports are issued within the EU (generally to EU-resident pets) by EU veterinarians.
