Ferrets Regulations
Vaccinations
Per SAG rules for traditional companion animals (Resolución SAG N° 6.508/2021, modificada por Resolución N° 3.543/2023), ferrets must be vaccinated against rabies. For a primary (first-ever) rabies vaccination, at least 21 days must elapse before entry. For booster vaccinations, the vaccine must be valid through entry, according to the manufacturer's validity.
- Rabies vaccination is required.
- Primary vaccination: wait at least 21 days before entering Chile.
- Booster vaccination: must be current/valid on the date of entry (per manufacturer).
Certifications
A Certificado Zoosanitario Internacional (CZI) issued by the official veterinary authority of the country of origin is required, reflecting clinical health, rabies vaccination status, and treatments as required by SAG. For travelers from the United States, use the APHIS Chile ferret health certificate completed by a USDA-Accredited Veterinarian and endorsed by USDA-APHIS. VEHCS electronic endorsement/signatures are accepted; travel with a printed copy of the endorsed certificate.
- Obtain a CZI from the official veterinary authority of the country of origin.
- If originating in the U.S.: have a USDA-Accredited Veterinarian complete the APHIS Chile ferret certificate and obtain USDA-APHIS endorsement (VEHCS accepted).
- Carry a printed copy of the endorsed certificate during travel and present it to SAG on arrival.
Microchip
Not specified by SAG for entry of ferrets. If your pet has an identification microchip or other ID, ensure the same identifier appears on the health certificate.
