Description:

BVI requirements differ by origin classification:

From Scheduled (rabies non-endemic) countries: Provide an official statement that the country has been free of rabies among un-quarantined animals for the past 24 months (per BVI scheduled-country conditions).
From Non-Scheduled (rabies endemic) countries: Provide proof of two rabies vaccinations and a FAVN rabies antibody titer result ≥ 0.5 IU/ml (per BVI non-scheduled conditions).

Note: The February 2020 BVI scheduled-country list does not include the United States; travelers from the U.S. follow the non-scheduled (endemic) pathway.

If originating from a Scheduled (rabies non-endemic) country: Provide official confirmation that the country has been free of rabies in un-quarantined animals for at least the previous 24 months (per BVI scheduled-country conditions).

An official veterinary health certificate is required. For U.S. origin, USDA APHIS indicates an APHIS-endorsed health certificate is required.

Have a licensed veterinarian issue an official export health certificate stating the animal is fit to travel.
Ensure the certificate meets the BVI conditions applicable to your origin classification (e.g., include the 24‑month national rabies-free statement if from a scheduled country).

Description:

An Animal Import Permit issued by the BVI Veterinary Division is required prior to entry. The non-scheduled (endemic) conditions specify a fee of US$10 per animal. The scheduled (non-endemic) conditions reference a fee schedule. Verify current fees with the BVI Veterinary Division.

Apply for and obtain an Animal Import Permit from the BVI Veterinary Division before travel.

Advance notice of arrival

Provide advance notice of arrival as required by the BVI Veterinary Division. Guidance indicates at least 24 hours’ notice may be required, particularly for sea arrivals.

Notify the BVI Veterinary Division at least 24 hours before arrival with travel details (carrier/flight or vessel, date/time, and port of entry).

Country classification

The BVI publishes separate conditions for Scheduled (rabies non-endemic) and Non-Scheduled (rabies endemic) countries. Requirements differ by classification. The United States is not on the scheduled list and must follow the non-scheduled pathway.
