Vaccinations
Description:

Rabies vaccination is required for animals aged 90 days or older. If it is the first rabies vaccination, entry is allowed only after a 21-day waiting period. Animals from rabies-free origins do not need rabies vaccination if the International Veterinary Certificate (IVC) explicitly states the rabies-free status. Puppies/kittens under 90 days may enter without rabies vaccination if additional conditions on the IVC are met.

  • Animal is 90 days or older at entry: present proof of current rabies vaccination.
  • If this is the first rabies vaccination: wait at least 21 days after vaccination before entry.
  • Booster vaccination: allowed without a 21-day wait as long as the previous vaccination was valid and continuous.
  • Animal is under 90 days old: may enter without rabies vaccination if the IVC certifies the animal’s age at issuance and that it has not been on premises with reported urban rabies cases in the 90 days prior to issuance.
  • Origin recognized as rabies-free: rabies vaccination is not required if the IVC explicitly states the rabies-free status.
Certifications
Description:

An IVC issued or endorsed by the exporting country’s official Veterinary Authority is required. Official Pet Passports are accepted only from countries that reciprocally accept Brazil’s Pet Passport; the European Pet Passport is not valid to enter Brazil. From the U.S., USDA APHIS endorsement is required; digital endorsement via VEHCS is accepted.

  • Clinical examination: performed within 10 days prior to IVC issuance; the animal is clinically healthy and fit for transport.
  • Parasite treatments: broad-spectrum internal and external parasite treatments administered within 15 days prior to IVC issuance; list active ingredients on the certificate.
  • IVC validity: 60 days from the date of issuance, provided the rabies vaccination remains valid for the entire travel period.
  • From the United States: obtain USDA APHIS endorsement (digital endorsement via VEHCS accepted); carry the printed endorsed certificate with the animal.
Microchip

Microchip is not required for entry.

Origin Requirements
  • Rabies free origin (as stated on IVC)
If the origin is recognized as rabies-free and this is stated on the IVC, rabies vaccination is not required.
  • Animals under 90 days old
May enter without rabies vaccination if the IVC certifies the animal’s age at issuance and no urban rabies cases occurred on the premises in the prior 90 days.
