Vaccinations
Description:

Rabies vaccination and a rabies neutralising antibody titre (RNAT/RNATT) test are required for import to Australia from most countries. The RNATT result must meet the minimum titre specified by the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) and remain valid through export. Export cannot occur until a required waiting period has elapsed after the laboratory receives the blood sample; confirm exact timing in your permit conditions and the relevant step-by-step guide.

  • Pet must be microchipped before rabies vaccination and any blood sampling
  • Maintain a valid rabies vaccination before the RNATT blood draw and through export
  • RNATT performed by an approved laboratory with a titre that meets DAFF’s minimum threshold
  • Observe the required post-sample waiting period before export, as specified in your import conditions
Certifications
Description:

An Australian import permit is required for most cats and dogs. Apply via DAFF and ensure the permit is valid at the time of arrival. Follow the relevant DAFF step-by-step guide for your exporting country category.

  • Apply well in advance via DAFF
  • Permit must be valid on arrival
  • Submit supporting documents as specified by DAFF (e.g., RNATT evidence)
Microchip

A readable ISO-compliant microchip must be implanted before rabies vaccination and any blood sampling. The microchip number must be recorded on all veterinary certificates and laboratory reports.
