Vaccinations
Rabies vaccination is required for dogs and cats entering Argentina, with exceptions provided by SENASA/MERCOSUR. Animals from a country or zone recognized as rabies-free by WOAH/OMSA may enter under that condition when this status is stated on the CVI or official pet passport.
Operator note: The SENASA page references WOAH/OMSA rabies-free status but does not link to the specific list.
- The rabies vaccination must be valid at the time of entry.
- If it is the animal’s first rabies vaccination, it must be administered at least 21 days before entry.
- Puppies and kittens under 3 months old: rabies vaccination is not required if the official veterinary authority certifies the animal’s age and attests that it has not been on any property where urban rabies occurred in the 90 days prior to shipment.
- Animals originating from a country or zone declared rabies-free by WOAH/OMSA may enter with that status indicated on the CVI or official pet passport.
Certifications
An official health document is required for entry.
- Submit either: (a) an International Veterinary Certificate (CVI) issued, signed, and stamped by the official veterinary authority of the country of origin; or (b) an official pet passport issued by the competent authority.
- Validity: The CVI or official pet passport used for entry must be issued within 60 days prior to arrival.
- If the CVI is not in Spanish, present a certified translation upon arrival.
Microchip
Not required by SENASA. If electronic identification is present, it should comply with ISO 11784/11785 and its location/number must be recorded on the health document (per MERCOSUR/GMC/RES. 17/15).
