Safety and Service Options

  • The well-being of pets is prioritized. Check breed restrictions before the trip.
  • When booking, look for the option “Travel with your pet” to select having your pet on board or checked.
  • Fill out the onboard pet form to speed up the process at the counters.
  • Brachycephalic or small breeds may be susceptible to illness during the flight. A liability waiver may be required.

Container Requirements

  • On board: The container can be made of fabric, rigid plastic, or bubble, with specific measurements. Combined weight of pet and container must not exceed 26 lb.
  • Checked: The container must be rigid, clean, waterproof, ventilated, without wheels, and free of harmful objects. Combined weight of pet and container must not exceed 100 lb.

Preparation for Flight

  • Feed and hydrate your pet four hours before the flight.
  • Acclimate your pet to the container a few days before travel.
  • Do not sedate your pet, as it increases health risks.

Documents Required

  • Arrive at least two hours in advance for domestic flights and three hours for international flights.
  • Present required documents, including Vaccination card, Animal health certificate, and Travel form.
  • If your pet is receiving the rabies vaccine for the first time, it must be applied at least 30 days before your travel date.

Travel Restrictions

  • Only dogs and cats are allowed.
  • Pets under 4 months old, sick, dead, violent, or pregnant females are not allowed.
  • Only one animal is allowed per container.
  • Pets should not have had any surgical processes within 5 days prior to the flight.

Breed Considerations

  • Dogs may travel in any window seat, except premium and emergency exit. Cats only in the last row window.

Service Animals (In-Cabin & Support)

Your service dog must wear a collar and harness or leash at all times.

Brachycephalic dogs may be at high risk of health complications during the flight due to respiratory or cardiac conditions. Traveling with these dogs requires signing a waiver of liability.
  • Passengers with service dogs may choose any seat except emergency exit seats.
  • Individuals with disabilities can travel with a service animal at no additional cost.
  • Staff assistance is available at airport counters, boarding gates, and during connections.
  • Please inform Volaris when booking and upon arrival to ensure proper accommodations.
  • Except for flights to and from the USA, proof that your dog is a service animal is required.

It is your responsibility to comply with all documents and restrictions required by each country involved in your travel. Verify requirements before your flight to avoid complications.

Vaccination and Deworming Certification

  • Present vaccination records including rabies vaccine (first administration or current booster).
  • First rabies vaccine must be given at least 30 days before the flight.
  • Dogs 15 months or older must have a current rabies booster to fly without waiting 30 days.
  • Deworming treatment must be recent (within six months before return date).

Health Certificate

  • Present original and copy of an animal health certificate showing prior inspection and clinical health.
  • Certificate must be on letterhead with veterinarian's license number, dated within five days before the flight.
  • If license number is missing, present a copy of the veterinarian's professional license.
  • If return flight is more than five days after certificate date, a new certificate is required.
A health certificate is NOT required for flights from the United States to Mexico. Instead, complete the U.S. Department of Transportation Service Animal Air Transportation Form. Upon entry to Mexico, SENASICA will inspect your dog.

Additional Requirements

  • You must sign the Volaris pet transportation form provided at airport counters.
  • On flights from the USA, the Volaris form is NOT required; complete the U.S. Department of Transportation form instead.
  • For flights to the USA, the Volaris form is NOT required; complete the U.S. Department of Transportation form and comply with CDC requirements.
  • All dogs must be free from external parasites, including screwworms (Cochliomyia hominivorax).

SAGARPA/SENASICA Animal Health Certificate

  • Flights from Mexico to Central America require original and copy of the export animal health certificate issued by SAGARPA/SENASICA.

Sanitary Inspection Certificate (CIS)

  • Travelers from Colombia must present a Sanitary Inspection Certificate (CIS) issued by the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA).

Frequent Traveler Program

Mexican customers on the Frequent Traveler program for pets only need to:

  • Present a valid certificate issued by SENASICA.
  • Fill out the form provided at the airport.

This section does not apply to service animals on flights to or from the United States.

In-Cabin Carrier Details

  • Container type and size: Fabric, rigid plastic, or bubble containers are allowed.
  • Maximum dimensions: 44 cm long, 30 cm wide, and 19 cm high (17.5 x 12 x 7.5 inches).
  • Pet and container combined weight must not exceed 26 lb.
  • Pet must be able to move comfortably inside the carrier.
  • Inside the aircraft: Container must be placed under the seat in front of you; other belongings go in the overhead bin.
  • Pets in a stroller: Strollers are charged as additional baggage based on size and type (carry-on or checked).
  • If checked, strollers can be picked up at baggage claim or aircraft door as instructed by customer service.
  • You may replace included baggage allowance with a stroller at no extra cost if it meets size requirements.
  • Feeding: Feed and water your pet at least four hours before the flight.
  • Preparation: Acclimate your pet to the container days before travel; use absorbent material or sanitary stones inside.
  • Do not sedate your pet: Sedation increases risk of cardiac or respiratory issues during flight.
  • Documents and check-in: Arrive at counters at least 2 hours before domestic and 3 hours before international flights.
  • Present required documents and fill out necessary forms with pet and owner information.
  • Pay transportation fee if not done online.
  • Security: Additional inspections by airport security may occur; arrive early to allow time.
  • Service restrictions: Only dogs and cats allowed.
  • Pets under 4 months, sick, deceased, violent, or pregnant females are not permitted.

Cargo:

In Cargo Carrier Details

The combined weight of your pet and the container must not exceed 45 kg (100 lb).

  • Characteristics: The carrier must be rigid, clean, waterproof, well-ventilated, without wheels, and free of objects that could hurt your pet.
  • It must be scratch-proof, have an anti-escape closure, and have handles for lifting.
  • Measurements:
    • Length: Equivalent to the length of the animal from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail, plus a quarter of that length.
    • Width: Equivalent to twice the width of the animal (using the widest part as reference).
    • Height: Equivalent to the height of the standing animal, from the tip of the head or ears to the ground.
  • Identification and Contact Information: The carrier must contain your contact information (name, phone, and address) and pet identification (name, age, and sex).

Reviews

: Volaris has a great pet flying program. Ive flown multiple times with them both in cargo and in compartment. From the counter to the pick up, it was smooth and easy. Unfortunately they updated their policy to not include pit bulls. This required me to look for a new Airline.
