All pets, including service animals, must be booked in advance. Provide all pet names and weights at booking. Guests arriving with unbooked pets may be denied boarding. If possible, re-accommodation on a later flight will be offered.

  • Maximum of three (3) pets per flight in total.
  • Maximum of one (1) party with up to two (2) large pets (21 lbs or over each) per flight.
  • A seat must be purchased for pets or parties weighing over 100 lbs total; seated pets count toward the total pet allowance.
  • Large pets (21 lbs or over) must travel in the last row of the aircraft with their owner.
  • Unforeseen circumstances like weather may combine flights, resulting in multiple parties with large pets on the same flight; accommodations will be made to ensure safety and comfort.
  • Tradewind reserves the right to require pets to be placed in an appropriate carrier or muzzled.
  • Guests are responsible for all costs related to cleaning or damage caused by their pets.
  • For Northeast flights, use grass areas outside FBOs for pet relief. At San Juan Airport, use the Pet Relief Area between Terminals A and B.

Regular Care When Handling Dogs or Cats

  • Dogs and cats must be observed at least once every 4 hours during air transport when the cargo area is accessible.
  • Animals must not be removed from their kennel except for cleaning, veterinary care, emergencies, or transfer to compliant facilities.
  • If in transit over 24 hours, kennels must be cleaned; removal for cleaning must ensure animal safety and prevent escape.
  • Ill, injured, or distressed dogs or cats must not be transported except for veterinary care.

Kennel Size: Ensure the kennel is the appropriate size for the dog or cat.

Construction and Quality:

  • Hard sided with secure fasteners strong enough for air transport rigors.
  • Door must close securely and open easily without special or sharp tools.
  • Exterior handles or handholds should be sturdy to:
    • Lift the kennel without tilting.
    • Allow handlers to avoid unnecessary contact with the animal.
  • Adequate ventilation with openings on three sides and the door.
  • Free of toxic or harmful materials, treatments, paint, or preservatives.

Kennel Cleanliness and Safety:

  • Must be clean and sanitized.
  • Floor must be leak-proof and covered with an unused litter pad or collection tray.
  • Interior free of sharp points or edges that could injure the animal.
  • Design allows quick and easy removal of the animal in an emergency.
  • Prevents any part of the animal from protruding outside the enclosure to avoid injury.

More than One Dog or Cat in the Same Kennel:

  • USDA requires dogs and cats to be at least 8 weeks old and fully weaned before traveling.
  • Usually only one animal per kennel is allowed.
  • Two live puppies or kittens may share a kennel if:
    • They are 8 weeks to 6 months old.
    • Of comparable size.
    • Weigh 20 pounds (9 kg) or less.
  • More than one animal may share a kennel if traveling to research facilities and:
    • They are weaned puppies less than 8 weeks old and of comparable size, or
    • They are unweaned littermates accompanied by the mother.

The dog or cat should have an appropriate temperament for air travel and be well behaved and not aggressive.
