Sun Country Airlines (SY) — Pet and Service Animal Policy

• In-cabin pets (domestic only): Small cats and dogs are accepted in the passenger cabin on domestic flights only. Not permitted on international flights or on flights to/from Anchorage (AK), Hawaii, or Puerto Rico. Interline itineraries are not eligible. Capacity is limited and advance arrangements are required by calling Sun Country Reservations.
• Fees & booking: A nonrefundable fee is charged per flight segment. Walk-up pets without advance reservations may incur a higher per-segment fee. The pet and carrier count as the passenger’s carry-on item. Refer to Sun Country’s Bags & Optional Services page for current fees.
• Weight limit: Pets accepted in cabin when weighing 35 lb (or less).
• Onboard rules: The pet must remain in its carrier under the seat in front of you for the entire flight. Passengers traveling with pets may not be seated in exit or bulkhead rows. One pet per carrier; number of pets per flight is limited.
• Carrier requirements (in-cabin): Maximum external dimensions 16" L x 11" W x 8" H; leak-proof bottom; ventilated on at least two sides. Soft-sided pet carriers purpose-built for pets are recommended.
• Cargo/checked animals: Sun Country does not accept animals as checked baggage or as cargo/unaccompanied shipments.
• Service animals (no charge): Only dogs are recognized as service animals. The dog must be at least 6 months old and individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability. Must be harnessed/leashed/tethered and remain on the handler’s lap or within the handler’s foot space (not in a seat). Sun Country may refuse carriage if the animal poses a direct threat or causes significant disruption. DOT Service Animal Air Transportation Form is required (and DOT Relief Attestation for flights 8+ hours). If the reservation is made more than 48 hours before departure, forms must be submitted 48 hours in advance.
• Emotional support animals: Not considered service animals. Psychiatric service dogs are recognized if trained; otherwise, ESAs must travel under the in-cabin pet policy and fees.
• Liability: Standard baggage liability limitations apply; Sun Country assumes no responsibility for animal health. Dead animals will not be transported.
