Service Animals:

Service Animals (In-Cabin & Support)

Service animals assist persons with disabilities and must be certified in writing by a professional service institution.

  • Service animals ride free of charge in the aircraft cabin.
  • They must remain harnessed and at their owner’s feet for the duration of the flight.

Specialty Animals

Specialty animals are dogs trained to perform professional functions but not providing disability-related services.

  • A registered certificate proving training of the dog and handler is required.
  • Valid health and vaccination certification must be provided.
  • The completed Specialty Animal form must be submitted at least 96 hours before the flight.
  • If submitted within 96 hours, PAL Airlines will make reasonable efforts to accommodate.
  • All specialty animals must have their own seat purchased on PAL Airlines flights.
  • The fare for the specialty animal equals the fare paid by the owner/trainer/traveler.
  • Certain exceptions may apply.

Emotional Support Animals:

Emotional Support Animals

PAL Airlines accepts emotional support animals in the cabin to assist travellers who require them.

  • Travel with a dog requires a letter from a medical professional.
  • The letter must be dated within one year prior to travel.

For all procedures and details about traveling with emotional support dogs, please refer to the Emotional Support Animal application provided by the airline.

Compartment Carrier Details:

In-Cabin Carrier Details

Provincial Airlines welcomes you to travel with your pet cat or small dog in the cabin on scheduled service flights, subject to the following conditions:

  • Pet must be able to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably in its carrier under the seat in front of you.
  • Carrier must be an approved soft-sided kennel or bag/backpack with maximum dimensions of 14.5" x 15" x 11" (L x W x H).
  • Only one pet per carrier per person is allowed in the cabin.
  • Pet must be at least 10 weeks old, fully weaned, and fully trained.
  • Pet must always remain in its carrier during the flight.
  • Carrier must be placed under the seat in front of your assigned seat and must not obstruct aisles.
  • Carrier can be removed from under the seat during flight but must be stowed during taxi, take-off, landing, and when the seat belt sign is on.
  • Carrier counts as your one carry-on baggage allowance.
  • Pet strollers and pet car seats are accepted as checked baggage only.

Booking and fees:

  • Pet in cabin can be booked at the time of booking or at least 24 hours after reservation.
  • Space is limited; early booking is recommended.
  • Booking is done by calling Customer Care at 1.800.563.2800 or emailing reservations@palairlines.ca.
  • At booking, you will be asked for carrier dimensions, pet weight, and breed; the pet in cabin fee will be collected.

Restrictions:

  • Unaccompanied minors are not permitted to travel with a pet in cabin.
  • Passengers seated in emergency exit rows cannot travel with a pet in cabin.
  • Passengers traveling with a medical device that must be stowed underneath the seat cannot travel with a pet in cabin.
  • Carrier cannot be accepted as sky check.

Check-in and travel preparation:

  • You must see an agent at the check-in counter before proceeding through security when traveling with a pet in cabin.
  • If your pet appears aggressive, distressed, unruly, or unhealthy, Provincial Airlines reserves the right to refuse travel.
  • Feed your pet 4 to 6 hours before departure to avoid discomfort.
  • Remove your pet’s leash before boarding.
  • Exercise your pet before arriving at the airport.
  • Tranquilizers and other medications are not recommended; consult your veterinarian.
  • The carrier must accompany you to the washroom if needed.
Note: This pet in cabin policy does not apply to Air Borealis flights.

In Cargo Carrier Details

PAL Airlines Cargo prioritizes the comfort and safety of your animals. For animals travelling alone, arrangements must be made at least 48 hours in advance. Rates depend on kennel dimensions and weight, so provide this information when booking.

Restrictions

  • Animals emitting offensive odors, hostile, or agitated will not be accepted.
  • Cats or dogs under 10 weeks old are not accepted.
  • Some extra-large kennels may be refused due to aircraft size and availability.
  • Animals departing Montréal station must have owners travelling on the same flight.
  • Only one kennel per customer allowed during holiday season due to high passenger volume.
  • Shipment may be delayed during extreme forecasted temperatures for animal comfort.

Kennels

  • Must be certified leak-proof carriers, free of defects, with adequate ventilation.
  • Large enough for pet to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably.
  • Metal wire cages are not accepted.
  • Maximum two animals per kennel; animals must be friendly and familiar with each other.

Additional Tips

  • Feed a light meal and provide water 2 to 3 hours before departure.
  • Exercise your animal immediately before leaving for the airport.

Kennel, Weight, and Size Restrictions

  • Maximum external dimensions: 40" x 28" x 30" (L x W x H).
  • Maximum internal dimensions: 36" x 24" x 26" (L x W x H).
  • Maximum combined weight of pet and kennel: 100 lb (45 kg).

Additional Pet as Checked Baggage Information

  • Carriers must be hard-sided with all hardware in place; collapsible and wire carriers are not accepted.
  • Carriers must be secure, leakproof, and the door must close securely without locking mechanisms.
  • PAL Airlines provides two zip ties at check-in to secure the kennel door after security clearance.
  • Wheels must be removed from carriers before check-in.
  • Carriers must be marked with pet’s name and owner’s phone number.
  • Animals must be able to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably.
  • PAL Airlines may refuse transport of aggressive, distressed, unruly, or unhealthy animals.
  • Feed pets a light meal and provide water before check-in; a toy or blanket may be included for comfort.
  • Tranquilizers are not recommended; if used, veterinary documentation is required at check-in.
  • The aircraft cargo hold is not heated but ventilated from the cabin air system.

Connecting Flights with Air Borealis

  • Only one kennel per flight is accepted due to aircraft size; early booking is encouraged.
  • Animals are not accepted on Air Borealis flights from October 15 to April 15 due to cold temperatures.
  • Pets are not accepted in cabin as carry-on on Air Borealis flights.

Airline Pet Policy Summary

Pets (Cats/Dogs) in the Cabin

  • Only small cats and dogs that can stand, turn around, and lie down in their carrier are allowed.
  • The pet carrier must fit under the seat, with dimensions no bigger than 11 inches in height, 15 inches in width, and 14.5 inches in length.
  • Travel fee: $50 plus taxes for domestic, $100 plus taxes for international.
  • Pet booking must be made at least 24 hours after flight reservation.
  • Carrier must be stowed for taxi, take-off, landing and when the seatbelt sign is illuminated.
  • One pet per carrier per person; the pet carrier counts as one carry-on baggage allowance.

  • Kennel must be hard-sided, leak-proof, and not allow any protrusion of the pet’s paws.
  • A kennel fee is charged per direction, regardless of other checked bags.
  • Animals must be at least 8 weeks old.
  • Owner's contact information and pet's name should be marked on the kennel.
  • Feed pets a light meal and exercise them before departure; tranquilizers are not recommended.

Service Animals

  • Service animals providing assistance to a person with disability ride free of charge in the cabin and must remain harnessed.

Specialty Animals

  • Specialty dogs travel with the certified trainer/owner and must remain harnessed.
  • The fare for the dog will be the same as the fare paid by the trainer/owner.
