Service Animals (In-Cabin & Support)

Service animals are dogs individually trained to perform tasks for passengers with disabilities or health conditions, such as guide or medical alert dogs.

If traveling with a small pet that fits in a carrier under the seat, it may travel in the cabin. Larger pets must travel in a rigid kennel in the hold. Pet travel must be confirmed by LATAM's Contact Center before arrival at the airport.

At check-in, an agent will verify that your carrier or kennel meets requirements and that your pet has necessary documents for all trip segments. Non-compliance will prevent boarding for safety reasons.

Your pet must remain inside its carrier or kennel at all times, must not be sedated, and must be accompanied by its owner.

Pet Requirements

  • Category: Small dog or cat
  • Size: Pet must stand, move, and turn naturally inside the carrier without touching walls or ceiling
  • Weight: Allowed if size requirements are met
  • Transport: Use a kennel or carrier meeting safety requirements
  • Minimum age: 16 weeks, weaned at least 5 days before departure
  • Health & behavior: Pet must be healthy, not sedated, calm, and females must not be pregnant or have given birth within 48 hours
  • Quantity: One pet per passenger; restrictions apply with special services
  • Location: Aisle seat only; container must fit under the front seat without forcing; no seats in first row or emergency exit

Eligible Flights and Cabins

  • Service only on flights operated exclusively by LATAM (no codeshare or other airlines)
  • Cabins: Premium Economy (1 pet per flight) and Economy (up to 5 pets per flight)
  • Premium Business cabin does not have space for pet containers

Carrier and Kennel Requirements

You may choose between a flexible carrier or a rigid kennel. Both must:

  • Meet size requirements
  • Have no wheels
  • Be made of durable material that pets cannot destroy
  • Have a leak-proof, absorbent base and adequate ventilation
  • Not be altered or modified with non-original elements
  • Have a secure closure to prevent pet escape

Flexible Carrier

  • Maximum dimensions: 40 cm (L) x 28 cm (W) x 25 cm (H)

Rigid Kennel or Carrier

  • Maximum dimensions: 36 cm (L) x 33 cm (W) x 19 cm (H)
  • Metal gate with double locks (top and bottom)
  • Ventilation slots small enough to prevent pet’s nose or paws from poking through

Service Restrictions

  • Not available on flights from/to Galapagos, Aruba, Australia, England, Mount Pleasant, New Zealand, South Africa
  • Restricted on flights to Fernando de Noronha: only guide dogs, accredited police dogs, and authorized pets of permanent inhabitants or transferred public employees allowed
  • Not available in Premium Business cabin due to lack of storage space
  • Not available on codeshare or connecting flights operated by other airlines
  • Minors traveling alone or using Unaccompanied Minor service cannot add pet service
  • Pet travel suspended temporarily between the US and Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia due to CDC restrictions
  • Dogs vaccinated outside the USA cannot be transported to Boston and Orlando
  • Only one pet allowed in Premium Economy cabin
  • Service unavailable on flights operated by Wamos Air

If traveling with a small pet that fits in its carrier or kennel under the seat in front of you, you may bring it in the cabin. Larger pets must travel in a rigid kennel in the hold.

Prior confirmation with LATAM Airlines Contact Center is required. On the day of travel, kennel and documentation will be checked at the airport counter. Pets not meeting requirements will be denied boarding for safety.

  • Type of animal: Dog or cat. Restrictions apply for certain breeds (potentially dangerous or brachycephalic).
  • Weight limits (pet + kennel combined):
    • Single-aisle aircrafts (A319, A320, A321):
      • Up to 32 kg for flights up to 4 hours
      • Up to 23 kg for flights 4 to 5 hours
      • No service for flights over 5 hours
    • Twin-aisle aircrafts (B767, B777, B787):
      • Up to 45 kg (99 lb)
      • For flights to/from/connecting Europe, Argentina, Venezuela: max 32 kg (70.5 lb)
    • Passengers with connections from twin-aisle to single-aisle aircrafts must follow the most restrictive weight limit.
  • Pet size: Must stand on all four paws and turn naturally without touching kennel walls. Minimum 5 cm (2 in) clearance from pet's head to kennel ceiling.
  • Kennel requirements: Rigid, well-ventilated, max linear size 300 cm (height + length + width), max height 115 cm (45 in).
  • Minimum age: 16 weeks, weaned at least 5 days before departure.
  • Health and behavior: Pet must be healthy, not sedated, calm, not pregnant or having given birth within 48 hours.
  • Number of pets: Up to 2 pets in the hold, each in its own kennel. Max 2 pets per flight on single-aisle aircrafts; no set limit on wide-body aircrafts but subject to space availability.
  • Eligible flights: Only LATAM-operated flights, max one connection with layover under 7 hours. Not valid for codeshare or other airlines.

On domestic flights in Brazil, pet transport is subject to prior evaluation considering pet weight, aircraft type, schedule, cargo reservations, available space, and flight duration. Transport may be changed or refused to protect pet health.

Required Documentation

  • Health documents: Vaccination certificates, import permits, entry authorizations, blood tests, microchips as required by origin, destination, and connections.
  • Health certificate: Issued by a veterinarian within 10 days before travel, including pet's name, age, breed, vaccinations, and statement of good health. Original and copy required at airport.

Kennel and Travel Container Requirements

  • Kennel must have two bowls secured to the gate for water and food.
  • Water bowls must be large enough for flights over 8 hours; water bottles are not accepted substitutes.
  • Food bowls are not required to be filled.
  • Modified or altered kennels are not accepted due to safety concerns.

Restrictions and Special Conditions

  • Service unavailable or restricted on flights from/to Galapagos, Aruba, Australia, England, Mount Pleasant, New Zealand, South Africa.
  • Fernando de Noronha (FEN): Only guide dogs, accredited police dogs, and one pet per permanent inhabitant or transferred public employee with authorization allowed.
  • Restricted on direct flights between Santiago and Guayaquil due to hold space limitations.
  • Not available on domestic Brazil flights departing/arriving 10:01 a.m.–3:59 p.m. due to high temperatures.
  • Minors traveling alone or as unaccompanied minors cannot add pet service.
  • No pet travel on codeshare or other airline connections.
  • Pet travel temporarily suspended between the US and Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia due to CDC restrictions; exceptions at some airports. Orlando excluded.
  • Passengers with pets in hold cannot board transfer bus at JFK Airport.
  • From Dec 15 to Apr 15, no pets in hold on flights to/from New York City or Boston; cabin travel allowed if conditions met.
  • Dogs vaccinated outside the USA cannot be transported to Boston and Orlando.
