Service and Guide Dogs

• Recognized guide and service dogs assist people with motor, visual, hearing impairments, intellectual/relational disorders, or psychiatric disabilities.
• Travel free of charge as carry-on; no seat quota applies.
• Must submit a training certificate from a recognized dog center or institution.
• Service must be requested at least 48 hours before flight; confirmation after documentation check.
• Dogs must be well-behaved, not barking, growling, or attacking.
• Small dogs may travel without a carrier but must use leash and muzzle if requested.
• Guide dogs must remain under the seat in front and wear their harness.
• Dogs must be under direct control, not sit on seats or block emergency exits.

Emotional Support Animals (ESA) Policy

Dogs that offer emotional support are not considered trained service dogs and therefore cannot board flights free of charge.

They can travel for a fee, subject to the procedures for boarding dogs as carry-on or in the hold based on their weight.

In-Cabin Pet Carrier Rules

• Pets must be inside a soft-sided, semi-rigid, or rigid carrier that is ventilated and closed for the entire flight.
• Pet and carrier total weight limits:
  • Up to 12 kg on flights within Italy (including 2 kg for carrier)
  • Up to 10 kg on other flights
• Carrier maximum dimensions:
  • Height: 24 cm
  • Length: 40 cm
  • Width: 30 cm (20 cm on international and intercontinental flights)
• Carrier must be ventilated, waterproof, resistant, and allow pet to sit, turn, and lie down comfortably.
• Up to 5 animals of the same species allowed in one carrier if total weight limits are respected.
• For safety, pets must remain inside the carrier until disembarkation is complete.

Checked and Cargo Pet Carrier Rules

• Pets traveling in the hold must be in a rigid carrier made of fiberglass or rigid plastic.
• If the carrier has wheels, they must be removed or secured with adhesive tape if retractable.
• Carrier must have:
  • Metal door with locking system (upper, central, and lower locks)
  • Side air vents made of metal (not plastic)
• Carrier size may vary depending on the aircraft; inquire in advance.
• Maximum allowed weight for animals in cabin on flights within Italy is 10 kg plus 2 kg for carrier; other flights have different limits.
• Booking recommended at least 48 hours before flight with exact carrier dimensions.
• Ticket price varies depending on transport type and destination.
• Snub-nosed (brachycephalic) breeds are sensitive to stress and heat; assess health risks before travel.
