Service Animals

Service dogs are allowed in the aircraft cabin and are exempt from the 9 kg weight limit that applies to other pets.

Passengers traveling with service dogs should arrive at the check-in counter with their animal.

Authorization from the Ministry of Agriculture’s Veterinary Services is required for transporting service dogs to and from Israel.

EL AL follows local regulations and requires all necessary permits for transporting service dogs.

In-Cabin Pet Carrier Rules

• Only dogs, cats, and exotic birds are allowed in the cabin with their owners.
• The combined weight of the pet and carrier must not exceed 9 kg (except for service dogs, which are exempt).
• Transporting pets in the Business cabin is subject to EL AL service center approval and availability; the number of pets allowed is limited.
• Passengers must arrive at the check-in counter with their pet.
• Animals cannot be transported in the cabin to Johannesburg, London, and Hong Kong; transport to these destinations is only via cargo.

Checked Baggage and Cargo Pet Transport

• Animals weighing between 9 kg and 100 kg with their cage are usually transported as checked baggage in the aircraft hold.
• Animals weighing more than 100 kg with their cage are transported as registered cargo via the Cargo Division.
• Snub-nosed (brachycephalic) dog and cat breeds are not approved for transport as baggage or cargo.
• Dangerous dogs require all necessary permits and are transported according to local laws.
• Authorization from the Ministry of Agriculture’s Veterinary Services and destination country authorities is required.
• Transport cages must meet the destination country and EL AL requirements; measurements must be provided when applying for cargo transport.
