At Cathay, we prioritize the safety and comfort of your pets during travel. We provide professional travel services for your pets and welcome assistance dogs on board.

Important Information:

  • We offer Cathay Live Animal solution by Cathay Cargo for safe and reliable pet travel.
  • Brachycephalic breeds (snub nose cats and dogs) can travel from January to May and from October to December on routes from Hong Kong to London, Melbourne, and Singapore. Note: The route from London Heathrow to Hong Kong is currently unavailable for these breeds until further notice.
  • Brachycephalic animals must travel with a pet travel agent who ensures all travel conditions are met.
  • Pet travel agents can assist with navigating complex pet travel requirements and arrangements. We recommend agents who are members of the International Pet and Animal Transportation Association (IPATA) or Animal Transport Association (ATA).
  • From Hong Kong, you can book Cathay Live Animal through any agent.

Pet Travel via Cargo

  • Pet shipments must be booked directly with Cathay Cargo by:
    • Members of IPATA or ATA
    • IATA Accredited Freight Forwarders
    • Holders of valid IATA Live Animals Regulations (LAR) training certificate
  • Pets shipped as cargo must be taken to the cargo terminal for check-in and picked up at the cargo terminal at the destination.
  • Fees depend on the size and weight of the pet and its container.
  • Bookings can only be confirmed up to one month prior to travel.
  • Special rules apply for brachycephalic (snub-nosed) breeds:
    • Accepted only from January to May and October to December on routes:
      • Hong Kong to London Heathrow
      • Hong Kong to Melbourne
      • Hong Kong to Singapore
    • London Heathrow to Hong Kong route is temporarily unavailable for these breeds.
    • Must use an IPATA certified BOAS pet shipper to ensure travel conditions are met.
  • Contact local Cathay Cargo office for assistance and more information.
