Eligibility and Limits
- Accepted pets (in cabin): domesticated cats, dogs, rabbits, and household birds (subject to market restrictions).
- Only one passenger/household per aircraft may travel with up to two pets (or up to two service animals). Priority goes to the first customer who provides advance notification. Purchasing an extra seat can ensure space.
- Animals must be harmless, odorless, inoffensive, and suitable for in‑cabin travel as determined by Cape Air.
Fees
- Pet service charge: $49 per kennel/carrier (up to two small pets from the same household may share a kennel).
- If you purchase an additional seat to accommodate a pet, the pet fee does not apply.
- Service animals: travel free (up to two from the same household).
Carriers, Sizes, and Special Markets
- General kennel requirement and size: customer-provided kennel required; pet must stand and turn around; maximum size approximately 28" x 20.5" x 20.5".
- Aircraft specifics: Tecnam Traveller – hard-sided kennel only secured behind an opaque divider; Cessna 402 – hard- or soft-sided kennel secured aft; kennels are inaccessible during flight.
- Cape & Islands (Hyannis, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, incl. service to/from New Bedford or Norwood): dogs only may travel without a kennel if under 80 lb, leashed/harnessed, and not obstructing aisles/exits.
- JFK flights: only small cats and dogs; animal + kennel must not exceed 20 lb; kennel max 17" L x 12.5" W x 8.5" H.
- Britten Norman Islander (BNI) aircraft: no pets accepted on any BNI flights.

Handling and Connections
- Pets are checked and retrieved planeside for each Cape Air flight segment; no automatic transfer to connecting flights. Customers must arrange any connections and comply with other carriers’ policies.
Health and Documentation
- Current rabies vaccination required; animal should be free of fleas/ticks/disease. Customers are responsible for complying with all government entry/health/quarantine requirements.
Service Animals
- Only trained dogs qualify as service animals. Must be harnessed/leashed and remain under control; expected to fit within the handler’s foot space without blocking aisles/exits.
- Size guidance varies by aircraft; options for large dogs may include seating adjustments or, on Tecnam only, carriage in a customer-provided kennel at no extra cost (within size limits). No kennel space on BNI; limited aft-cabin flexibility on Cessna 402.
- Cape Air may rely on indicators/assurances of training and behavior; carriage may be refused for safety/health reasons. If refused, a written reason is provided within 10 calendar days.
Note: Advance notification is recommended but not a guarantee due to small-aircraft space, weight, and balance limits. Policies are subject to Cape Air’s Contract of Carriage.
