Service Animals (In-Cabin & Support)

Effective March 1, 2021, Asiana Airlines follows U.S. DOT regulations for service animals based on the departure date.

• Service dogs must have an identification tag from an accredited institution and wear a harness or leash.
• Allowed only for providing airline travel assistance.
• Service animals must be dogs aged 16 weeks or older.
• Dogs must be trained to behave properly in public and remain under the passenger’s control.
• Service dogs must stay on the floor space below or under the passenger's feet at all times and cannot intrude into other passengers’ seats or roam the aisle.
• Up to two service dogs are allowed per passenger.

Passengers may be denied boarding if:

• The service dog shows behavior indicating it is not properly trained.
• The service dog barks excessively or defecates in the boarding area or on board the aircraft.
• Reservations are not made at least 48 hours prior to flight departure (working days).
• The passenger refuses or fails to complete and submit the required U.S. DOT Service Animal Transportation and Relief Attestation Forms at the airport.

In-Cabin Carrier Details

Reservation Deadline:

• Domestic flights: At least 24 business hours before scheduled departure.
• International flights: At least 48 business hours before scheduled departure.

Pets without prior reservation or confirmation will not be allowed on board or as checked baggage.

Eligible Pets and Quantity:

• Each adult passenger may bring 1 pet into the cabin and 2 pets as checked baggage.
• Children are not allowed to travel with pets in the cabin.
• One pair of birds per cage is permitted.

Weight and Size Limits for Cabin Pets:

• Combined weight of pet and cage must not exceed 7 kg.
• Transport container dimensions must not exceed:
  • Length: 45 cm
  • Width: 32 cm
  • Height: 21 cm (soft cages up to 26 cm when uncompressed; compressed height must not exceed 21 cm)
• Rigid frame cages (wire, plastic, wood) maximum height: 21 cm.

Cage and Pet Restrictions:

• One cage per passenger, one pet per cage.
• Puppies or kittens under 6 months, a mother with her young, or a pair of birds may share a cage.
• Pets must remain inside cages throughout the flight and may only be given water.

Business Class Seating:

• Pet containers cannot be placed under the seat due to seat structure and safety regulations.
• Containers will be placed in another area with flight attendant guidance during taxiing, take-off, and landing.
• Underseat storage for pet containers is not available in Business Class except on A321 aircraft.
• Passengers traveling with pets must be seated in designated pet seating.

Pet Carry-On Cages (Domestic Flights):

• Available for purchase at domestic airports (excluding Incheon Airport).
• Permitted soft cage size: Width 39 cm × Height 26 cm × Depth 22.5 cm.
• Weight: 540 g (+ 200 g with footrest).
• Fully covered with mesh screens and double top and side covers.
• Includes a Saekdongi character name tag.

In Cargo Carrier Details

If the pet exceeds the cabin baggage size specifications, the following conditions apply for cargo/checked transport:

• Pet and cage combined weight must be 45 kg or less.
• The sum of the cage's three dimensions must be 285 cm or less.
• Cage height must not exceed 84 cm.

The number of pets allowed in cabin or checked may be restricted or refused depending on aircraft type and route.

Note: On A321 aircraft, pets cannot be checked on international routes.

Cage Conditions

• Must have a lock, sealed bottom, and sufficient ventilation.
• Waterproof construction with a waterproof pad on the bottom, plus towel or blanket inside.
• Enough space for the pet to stand and move comfortably.
• Bird cages must be covered with cloth during flight to prevent exposure.
• Made of strong materials such as metal, wood, or plastic.
• If brought inside the cabin, cages may be fabric or leather but must maintain shape with a frame.
• Only one pet per cage, except for:
  • Two puppies or two kittens under 6 months old
  • A mother with her young
  • A pair of birds

Transport Restrictions

• Pets are not allowed if restricted by destination city or country laws.
• Pets exceeding the allowable number for the aircraft are not permitted.
• Cages not meeting transportation standards are prohibited.
• Sum of cage dimensions over 285 cm or combined weight over 45 kg is not allowed.
• Some countries/cities may impose a lower weight limit of 32 kg or other aircraft restrictions regardless of size or weight.
• Pets under 16 weeks old or given stabilizers/sleep medicine cannot be transported.
• Pregnant pets, foul smelling pets, ferocious dogs (attack dogs and other fierce animals), and birds of prey are prohibited.

Checked-in transport of short-nosed animals has been discontinued due to health and safety risks (effective July 1, 2019).
