Service Animals:

Service Animals Policy

  • Service dogs including guide dogs, hearing dogs, and mobility assistance dogs are allowed on board free of charge on all ANA flights (domestic and international).
  • Service dogs must be tethered on a lead, harness, or similar at all times.
  • Dogs must be trained to perform specific work or provide support for a person with a disability.
  • ANA staff may question passengers to verify service dog status; if criteria are not met, the dog will be checked as cargo.
  • Medium or large service dogs must lie on the cabin floor; large dogs may require purchase of an adjacent seat if they intrude into adjacent space or aisle.
  • For codeshare flights on US routes, service dogs are accepted only on United Airlines codeshare flights.
  • Passengers must prepare required documents for international travel, including export quarantine certificates, health certificates, and import certificates.
  • Specific forms and advance notifications are required for travel to/from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Hong Kong.
  • Assistance dogs other than guide, hearing, and mobility dogs are prohibited from accompanying passengers inside Japanese airport terminals and must be transported by cage.

Passengers with assistance dogs should contact the ANA Disability Desk to arrange seating and notify at least 48-96 hours prior to departure depending on destination.

Emotional Support:

Emotional Support Animals (ESA) Policy

ANA distinguishes emotional support dogs from service dogs. For international flights to/from Mexico, passengers must prepare a Psychiatric Service Dog/Emotional Support Dog Application and notify the ANA Disability Desk at least 48 hours prior to departure.

Note: Emotional support dogs are not included under service animals and have specific application requirements depending on the route.

Passengers wishing to bring a pet cage on board should check the carry-on baggage size and rules for international flights.

Service dogs must lie on the cabin floor; large dogs may require purchase of an adjacent seat if they intrude into adjacent space or aisle.

  • Pets transported as cargo must be healthy; recently born puppies are not accepted.
  • Short-headed dog breeds (e.g., Bulldog, French Bulldog, Boxer, Pug, etc.) are not accepted on international flights year-round.
  • Containers must comply with IATA Live Animals Regulations, Chapter 8, and provide ample space for the animal to stand, sit, lie down, and turn around.
