Air Transat
Pet Policy Summary
Air Transat transports only domestic cats and dogs, subject to limited space and operational constraints. Advance reservation at least 24 hours before departure and airport check-in at least 120 minutes prior are required. Passengers are responsible for meeting all destination import/entry rules.
- Pets in cabin (PETC): One pet per passenger; counts as your carry-on (no additional carry-on). Max combined pet+carrier weight 8 kg (17.6 lb). Must remain under the seat for the entire flight. Not permitted in Club Class, bulkhead or exit rows; unaccompanied minors and passengers traveling with certain medical equipment are not eligible. Minimum passenger age to travel with a pet: 16. Allergy separation of at least 5 rows.
- Cabin carrier: Soft-sided, leak-proof, well ventilated, must fit under the seat. Max size 25 cm (H) x 24 cm (W) x 43 cm (L). The pet must be able to stand, turn, and lie down without body parts extending outside the carrier.
- Checked baggage hold (AVIH): IATA-compliant rigid kennel; one animal per kennel. Max accepted weight at check-in is 45 kg (99 lb), including the kennel. Max kennel size 122 x 81.3 x 89 cm (48 x 32 x 35 in). Acceptance subject to loading limits. Not available on connecting/codeshare flights or vacation packages; Train + Air does not allow pets in the hold.
- Age minimums: Generally 12 weeks; for the United States 6 months; for Guyana 4 months.
- Fees (per pet, per segment; amounts on the English–USD site and may vary by point of sale): Cabin—Europe & Africa $100 (≥24 h before) / $115 (at airport); South $100 / $115; USA $50 / $75; within Canada $50 / $75. Hold—Europe & Africa $275 / $300; South $275 / $300; USA $150 / $175; within Canada $100 / $115.
- Route/country restrictions: United Kingdom & Republic of Ireland—cats/dogs accepted as cargo only; certified service dogs may be accepted in cabin with advance reservation (typically ≥7 days). From London: pets in cabin/hold not accepted; from Manchester/Glasgow they are accepted. Jamaica—no animals accepted. One-way from Dominican Republic, Colombia, El Salvador, Cuba, Peru, Morocco, Guyana, Brazil, Türkiye, and Haiti—pets not accepted one-way (round-trip may be accepted with advance reservation). United States—CDC dog-entry rules effective Aug 1, 2024 apply; dogs that have been in a CDC high-risk country in the last 6 months are not accepted for entry.
- Documents/health: For EU travel, an ISO microchip, rabies vaccination, applicable tapeworm treatment, and a health certificate within required timelines (e.g., from Canada, within 10 days of EU arrival) are required. Air Transat may require a completed Pet Information Form.
- Service animals: Certified service dogs are accepted in the cabin free of charge with required documentation and advance arrangements; some routes (e.g., UK/Ireland) require Contact Centre booking.
Transport is never guaranteed and may be refused due to operational constraints even after prepayment. Reserve early and verify all destination entry requirements.

Note: Bullmastiff and French Mastiff (Dogue de Bordeaux) are exempted and accepted.
Support Animals
Service Animals: Certified service dogs are accepted in the cabin free of charge when traveling with a person with a disability, with required documentation and advance reservation via the Contact Centre (some routes, e.g., UK/Ireland, require advance notice typically ≥7 days). Service dogs must meet all destination entry rules, including U.S. CDC dog-entry requirements where applicable.
Emotional Support: Emotional support animals may be accepted in the cabin when traveling with a person with a disability and with required documentation and advance approval. ESAs must meet all destination entry requirements and are subject to route restrictions and operational limits.
Carrier Details
Compartment: Soft-sided carrier only; must be leak-proof and well ventilated, and fit fully under the seat. Maximum dimensions: 25 cm (H) x 24 cm (W) x 43 cm (L). The animal must be able to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably inside. The carrier counts as the passenger’s carry-on; no additional carry-on item is permitted.
Cargo: IATA-compliant rigid plastic kennel with ventilation on all four sides; no top petting door; wheels removed or disabled; secure locking door. One animal per kennel. Maximum accepted at check-in: 45 kg (99 lb) including pet and kennel. Maximum kennel size: 122 x 81.3 x 89 cm (48 x 32 x 35 in). Airline will secure the door with cable ties. A spill-proof water bowl may be firmly attached; loose water/food containers are not permitted.
