Pets in Cabin (PETC)

Prohibited Animals

  • Dogs classified as dangerous under French regulations (e.g., Pit Bull, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweiler, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Broholmer, Mastiffs incl. German/Bordeaux/Bullmastiff/Neapolitan, Bulldog, Cane Corso, Tosa, and crosses).
  • Brachycephalic (snub‑nosed) dogs and cats are not accepted (hold); in-cabin waiver also excludes brachycephalic pets.

Service Animals

  • Defined as individually trained to assist a person with a disability; pets and ESAs are excluded.
  • Allowance: up to two service dogs or one service cat per passenger; animal must be ≥4 months old and identified (microchip or eligible tattoo for France).
  • Must remain at the handler’s feet or on lap without encroaching on others or blocking aisles/exits. Leash/harness and muzzle are mandatory; ATN may require their use.
  • Documents: veterinary health certificate/passport; for U.S. travel, DOT Service Animal Air Transportation Form and Relief Attestation required at check-in. CDC dog-entry rules may apply.

Pets in Hold (Cargo)

  • When pets are not eligible for cabin or on other routes, shipment via ATN Cargo may be possible. IATA-compliant crate required.
  • General acceptance: typically ≥2 months old (non-U.S. destinations), microchipped, rabies-vaccinated, veterinary health certificate. U.S.-bound dogs must be ≥6 months, microchipped, vaccinated, and have CDC dog import form receipt.

Emotional Support Animals

  • ESAs are not recognized as service animals. They may travel as pets under the standard pet policy if eligible.

A service animal is an animal individually trained to provide assistance to a person with a disability. Pets and emotional support animals (ESAs) are not considered service animals.

Conditions for accepting and transporting pets in the cabin with Air Tahiti Nui:

  • Only vaccinated cats and dogs are accepted.
  • Pets must be identified as follows:
    • To the United States: microchip required.
    • To France: microchip or tattoo applied before July 3, 2011, and clearly legible.
    • To other destinations: microchip required.
  • Age requirements:
    • Transit through or travel to the United States: cats must be at least 4 months old; dogs at least 6 months old if they have only been in rabies-free or low-risk countries in the past 6 months.
    • Travel to other destinations: cats and dogs must be at least 4 months old.
  • The combined weight of the animal and its carrier must be ≤ 8 kg (17.6 lbs).
  • The pet must remain in an appropriate carrier (soft or rigid) that fits under the seat in front:
    • Maximum dimensions: 40 cm (L) x 35 cm (W) x 20 cm (H) / 15.7 in x 13.7 in x 7.9 in.
    • One carrier per passenger allowed, accommodating up to two small pets if weight and space requirements are met.
  • Availability of in-cabin pet transport is subject to quota per flight.

In Cargo Carrier Details

To ensure the safe transport of your pets in the hold, a certified cage according to IATA standards, approved for long-haul air transport, is mandatory. It guarantees the safety and well-being of your pets.

  • The cage consists of two plastic half-shells that fit one on top of the other, secured with metal threaded rods fitted with nuts or wing nuts.
  • The metal door must have four locking rods extending at least 1.6 cm beyond the bottom and top of the cage.
  • The cage has vents on the front, sides, and back for ventilation.
  • The cage must be sized so the animal can turn around, stand, and sit properly without putting its muzzle through the grid.

Acceptance Conditions for Animals in the Hold

  • Animals must be at least 2 months old (non-U.S. destinations).
  • Each animal's health book must be up to date.
  • Animals must be identified by a microchip.
  • Rabies vaccinations must be current.
  • A certificate of good health must be issued by a veterinarian.
  • Brachycephalic (snub-nosed) dogs and cats are not accepted.
