Summary of Aerolíneas Argentinas Pet Policy

  • Dogs and cats over 12 weeks old are allowed in the cabin.
  • Reservations for pets must be made 72 hours in advance through WhatsApp or the Call Center.
  • The combined weight of the pet and carrier must not exceed 9 kg.
  • Only one pet per passenger is allowed in a soft, ventilated carrier. Maximum carrier dimensions are 44x30x23 cm.
  • Hard-sided crates will not be permitted from April 1, 2024, except for certain return flights.
  • Pets must stay in their carrier, which should be placed under the seat, for the entire flight.
  • Brachycephalic breeds are accepted in the cabin with some restrictions. Certain breeds may require cargo transport.
  • Pet service is non-refundable and subject to availability.
  • In the hold, pets must be in carriers made of rigid material with adequate ventilation.
  • For domestic flights, a Health Certificate and anti-rabies vaccination record are required. International flights require additional permits from SENASA.

Service Animals Travel Rules

Service dogs, including psychiatric service dogs, are accepted with specific conditions, especially for travel to Miami, USA:

  • Must meet all general health and documentation requirements.
  • If the dog has been in a high-risk country for canine rabies within the past 6 months, additional requirements apply.
  • For U.S.-vaccinated dogs: Certification of U.S.-issued Rabies Vaccination endorsed by USDA is required.
  • For foreign-vaccinated dogs: Certification of Foreign Rabies Vaccination and Microchip form endorsed by an official government veterinarian, a rabies serology titer report from a CDC-approved lab, and a confirmed reservation at a CDC-registered animal care facility at the port of entry are required.
  • Service dogs may be transported together with the disabled passenger and may have expedited health examination and revaccination process at the animal care facility.

Note: Aerolíneas Argentinas does not transport dogs to the U.S. if they have been in any high-risk country for canine rabies within the past 6 months unless they are certified service dogs meeting the above conditions.

In-Cabin Pet Carrier Rules

  • Only dogs and cats at least 12 weeks old are accepted in the cabin.
  • Booking must be made at least 72 hours before departure via WhatsApp or Call Center.
  • Maximum pet weight including carrier: 9 kg.
  • Only one pet per passenger and one pet per carrier allowed.
  • Pets must be carried inside a waterproof, durable, ventilated, and safe carrier that prevents escape.
  • From April 1, 2024, only soft/flexible crates or carriers are allowed in the cabin.
  • Carrier must fit under the seat in front of the passenger.
  • Maximum carrier dimensions:
    • Soft-sided crates: 44 cm long x 30 cm wide x 23 cm tall
    • Hard-sided crates (allowed only for trips started before April 1, 2024): 44 cm long x 30 cm wide x 17 cm tall
  • Pets must remain inside the carrier at all times during the flight and pre/post boarding areas.
  • Food and drinks are not allowed during the flight.
  • Business class carriage of pets is not allowed on Airbus A330 operated flights.
  • Passengers traveling with minors under 2 years old cannot carry pets in the cabin.

If the carrier does not meet acceptance conditions, boarding will be denied and fees are non-refundable.

Cargo:

Checked Baggage and Cargo Pet Transport Rules

  • Dogs and cats must be at least 12 weeks old (16 weeks for flights to/from the USA).
  • Booking must be made at least 48 hours before departure via WhatsApp.
  • Pets must wear an ID tag with name and contact number.
  • For flights longer than 12 hours, a spill-proof water container must be inside the kennel; food is not allowed inside.
  • No maximum weight restrictions for checked pets.
  • Only one animal per carrier, except:
    • Up to 2 puppies/kittens (12 weeks to 6 months) of similar size
    • 2 adult animals of similar size and up to 14 kg each
    • 1 mother with 1 dependent puppy/kitten (12 weeks to 6 months)
  • Carrier requirements:
    • Sturdy, leak-proof base, ventilated sides
    • Rigid material with metal door and secure locking mechanism
    • From Sept 1, 2025, additional safety items required: zip ties (flat strap only) and nylon net bag covering the kennel
    • Wheels are not accepted and must be removed
    • Size must allow pet to stand, sit, turn around, and lie down comfortably
  • Brachycephalic breeds and certain listed breeds are not accepted as checked baggage and must be transported as Cargo.
  • Maximum 2 pets as checked baggage per passenger; more than 2 pets must be shipped as Cargo.
  • Connecting flights require minimum 1h30m connection time to pick up and re-check pets.
